Custom Blaster Review: LS 2000

A project that I began three years ago was the LS 2000, or Longshot 2000 Nerf Sniper. At this point, the Raider, Stampede, Longstrike, Barricade, Deploy, and all new Dart Tag and Vortex blasters had not been invented. So we got creative with our Longshots.

The LS 2000 is a Nerf Longshot, modified and styled after the WA 2000 Sniper Rifle. Despite the Nerf blaster functioning with a non-bullpup design, the overall look of the blaster gets its inspiration from the WA2000. The right hand thumbhole, external magazine, built-in folding bipod and scope are all styled after the WA2000.

The LS2000 is a yellow Longshot, hand painted red and coated in crystal enamel. However, excessive use of this blaster has led some of the paint to chip and show the original yellow paint. Internally, the Air Restictor has been removed, a Nitefinder spring has been added to the inner plunger tube, and the inner barrel has been replaced with the front barrel of the Longshot attachment. Additionally, the stock has been solidified in place to handle the increased spring tension. The pictured scope is not a real rifle or airsoft scope, and is just aesthetic. It does not magnify, as most humans don't have trouble seeing 40 feet.... However, I think it made the blaster look complete.

Because of the internal modifications, this blaster was shooting about 40 feet level. It was great for indoor games, as the shortened barrel made crouching behind barriers and turning corners fairly quickly. This blaster was designed to use stock Nerf Streamline (Clip System) darts, and shot brand new darts better than any modified darts. Currently, this three year old blaster is having trouble firing any Streamline darts that are not absolutely out of the box, brand new. This is likely because after years of use, the plastic internals have begin to crack and split, and need the increased diameter of new darts to fire them properly.

Future modifications to this blaster include painting the bipod red or black, and adding a tighter air seal in the plunger tube.
