Custom Blaster Review: Nerf SR-6

One of the great things about Nerf Recons is how customizable they are. Featuring three tactical rails, a realistic magazine release, and a stock attachment, Recons are one of the best platforms for custom modification. My Nerf Sniper Recon-6 takes a Recon, Longshot and Raider and throws them together to create a truly unique blaster.

The Sniper Recon-6 gets its inspiration from the Knight's Armament SR-25, a semi-automatic sniper rifle. Aesthetically, the SR-6 is a very large blaster, and can be difficult to carry for younger players in foam battles. However, due to very solid internal construction, this blaster feels very sturdy.

I built the SR-6 with the idea that putting two Recon front barrels together would be fun. The barrel is constructed of two Recon front barrels, both cut down and attached with tension and epoxy. With a Longshot inner barrel attached to a Recon inner barrel, the SR-6 has rifling down the entirety of its inner barrel. Because the barrel assembly came off a Recon initially, it has no problem fitting on Recons, Longshots, Longstrikes or Deploys. The receiver of the SR-6 is an internally modified Recon. The magazine is a classic 6- round tactical magazine, and the scope is an available Nerf attachment. The stock is a modified Raider stock, extended all the way, and supported internally by a single piece of .5x.5 inch wood. The wood is held in place by epoxy, hot glue and duct tape. adding the wood to the stock no longer allows the stock to extend or contract, but ensures that the stock is extremely durable and can support a lot of pressure.

Despite its looks as a sniper, the SR-6 does not actually perform as one. It's ranges are comparable to a stock Longstrike, mainly due to the extremely long barrel and smaller plunger tube (In comparison to a Longshot.) Because of the size of the blaster, it is unwieldy for Humans vs. Zombies, but carries a bit of intimidation regardless. The SR-6 is a great looking foam blaster, but does not perform as a sniper usually should. Tactically, this would not be a great blaster choice for long range- battles or indoor games. It's attachment points on the front barrel and stock for sling make it a great blaster to carry on your back, and it can still be broken down like many other foam blasters. For foam battles, the SR-6 can be really useful, especially in MILSIM games. Due to the realistic nature of its design, the SR-6 looks great out on the field, and is an appropriate size for an adult.

  1. In this one I have the AR out. I tested it with the Orange Mod Works kit 1, but the darts usually got stuck in the long barrel. Once I get stage two and install it, I'll try out the range again.
